Have you ever thought about starting the Catskill 3500 challenge? This peak is a good introduction to the challenge. At 3525 feet of elevation, Windham High Peak, or WHP, is the third lowest of the 33 peaks in the challenge and in my opinion one of the easier ones to do.
This peak is the northern most peak on the Escarpment trail and there are great views to the north and the south just off of the peak. We will start at the Escarpment Trailhead on Rt. 23 and work our way up the hill passing through the Elm Ridge Wild Forest and the many bike paths that cross the trail. After a series of switchbacks we reach the Elm Ridge Lean-to. This is where the trail starts to get more rugged and slowly turns steeper until just before we summit the ridge.
In total, this hike is 7 miles and about 1800 feet of elevation gain. It should take about half a day to complete. An electronic map of the hike: https://link.locusmap.app/t/dxbyqy All Trails Map link: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/new-york/windham-trail
